Air Traffic Control (ATC) Day 1 Practice Test

The key idea here is that a Senior Controller combines supervisory leadership with hands-on control responsibilities. A Senior Controller acts like a Watch Supervisor in overseeing the shift, ensuring safe and efficient operations, but adds the ability to manage an operating position himself or herself. This means they not only supervise others and coordinate overall flow, but also actively control a specific position, handling workload and making real-time decisions on that position when needed. That dual capability distinguishes the role from a plain supervisor who does not occupy an operating position.

So the best answer reflects this combination: same supervisory duties plus responsibility for an operating position. The other options don’t capture that blend—one suggests no extra duties beyond supervision, another narrows focus to safety inspections, and another limits duties to trainee evaluations.
